HISTORY:

Named for trees brought trom Germany, Linden was created trom Elizabeth and Rahway in 1861.

The area developed slowly, and as late as 1890, Linden was an area of truck farms. Standard Oil built a pumping station in Linden in 1909 and since then, the Bayway Refinery has grown into one of the world's largest refineries. Industrial expansion swept through Linden in the years following, with a major automobile manufacturer

establishing a sprawling assembly plant there in recent years.

Linden is now the second largest town in square miles in Umon County.
