Roseland was also originally part of "Horseneck Tract." Initially known as the Centerville section of Livingston, the name Roseland came into use after the Civil War, and was incorporated as a separate borough in 1908. The area was first developed as open farmland, and, by the late 19th century, half of the available land was devoted to the Becker Diary Farm. Today, this acreage is dedicated as public land. The large open spaces of old have been developed into the well-planned, peaceful community of Roseland.
