Fairfield, part of the "Horseneck Tract," was originally a farming region established by Dutch settlers from Bergen County and New York State. In 1964, Fairfield became the newest municipality in Essex County when it sceded from Caldwell. The community is largely comprised of industry and commercial businesses and is home to the Essex County Airport. Coupled with the many labor opportunities, the residents of Fairfield enjoy beautiful parks, a community swimming pool, and a free public library.
