Caldwell, the birthplace of President Grover Cleveland, is named in honor of the Reverend James Caldwell, known as the fighting parson of the American Revolution. Incorporated as a borough in 1892, it was the commercial and residential center of the "Horseneck Tract" which was formed as a township with surrounding communities and incorporated as early as 1798. The community is predominantly single-family homes with a number of multi-family homes and apartment complexes.
